Region
While the majority of wine grapes in Australia are grown in warmer regions, many of Australia’s super-premium, world class wines come from cooler regions. Experts attribute this to the slow ripening and accumulation of flavours promoted by cool conditions prior to harvest. The Murrumbateman region stands tall in Australian cool climate wine produce.
In 2005 Murrumbateman’s local winemakers and tourism businesses created an event called the Moving Feast to promote tourism in the area. The event was a huge success and has established itself as one of the three major annual wine events in the Canberra district.
"Australian Cool Climate Wine Show at Murrumbateman" began its life in 1999 and was born out of the vision and commitment that a small band of local grape growers and winemakers had to create a wine show that was truly dedicated to benchmarking the unique winestyles produced from cool climate wine regions. Since its inception, local wines have been well represented amongst the trophy and medal winners. This year more than 600 entries have been received from a record number of 130 large and boutique wineries from across the country.
